ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Stagiaires tend to work for partners in their own group, in this case Professor Alain Strowel and Patrice Vanderbeeken for the IP/Tech Group, but you can also work for partners in other groups to gain a diversity of experience not only in the types of work, but also in the different working practices and approaches of the different partners. The matters we work on are generally challenging and sophisticated, and sometimes require us to work outside our normal working hours.

However, we strive to provide a supportive environment that enables our stagiaires to become the best lawyers they can be, giving them the opportunity to build relationships with clients and to take responsibility for delivering high quality work. The firm works for a wide range of clients in many sectors including consumer brands, gaming, pharmaceuticals, media, telecommunications, technology, e-commerce, utilities and government.

The work involves advising on intellectual property, information technology, emerging technologies and data privacy issues, with a focus on the latter, rather than specialising in one area, in line with a 'multispecialist' approach. This allows our lawyers to engage with clients and become meaningfully involved in clients' wider business interests. You will therefore be able to build strong client relationships from the outset and participate in both legal and commercial decision making.

Examples of work :
- Advising on general data issues, including (future) AI regulation and the development of new data governance models.
- Advice on data privacy, including the deployment of compliance programmes, contractual negotiations on data transfers, responses to data subject requests, preparation and drafting of client materials, such as privacy policies and notices, advisory memoranda, slides and client alerts on important upcoming issues.
- Advising on intellectual property disputes and contracts (licensing and development).
- Advising on IP and technology aspects of mergers and acquisitions.
- Advising on cloud solutions for traditional software, development, licensing and
maintenance agreements.
- Advising on trends, development and implementation of emerging technologies, including AI and machine learning across a range of sectors.
- Supporting early and growth stage innovators and entrepreneurs, many of whom are developing and collaborating around IP and technology in sectors such as fintech, insurtech, sustainability and clean tech and social mobility.
- Advising clients on cyber resilience, including preparing for and responding to major breaches, and managing regulatory investigations and resulting claims.
- Support the wider team in developing the business and raising theprofile of the
IP and Technology practice and the firm as a whole.
- General assistance to trade associations
